A fine and detailed 1in : 48ft scale fully rigged and planked model of a Charles II 26 gun sixth rate degame of circa 1686, built by D.A.Brogden. -- 23 x 27in, (58.5 x 68.5cm).
Complete with full standing and running rigging with individually carved apple wood blocks, degame spars and limewood masts. Hull details include finely worked lion figurehead, hair rails with figurines surmounted by carved male figures, gun ports with lions heads and wreaths, palm tree chain whale brackets with dead eyes of holly, dogs and stern gallery details including scrollwork, naked nymphs, faces and coat of arms all in gilt. The main planking is wood pinned golden pine with sycamore deck beams and gratings and details including catheads with sheaves and lions' heads, anchors with bound stocks, belaying rails with carved heads, ship's bell and canopy, capstan, bilge pumps, companionways, deck rings, guns in carriages with blocks and tackle and three globe-shaped stern lanterns. Ensign, pennant and Union Jack. Finished in white, natural wood and black with venetian red gunwales and gilded decorations. Mounted on two turned wood columns on wood base, glazed case.
