(9 1/2 x 7 1/2 in.), integral address leaf in Harrison's hand, faint mat burn, leaves cleanly separated. Senator Harrison resoundingly endorses a colleague's son: "The friends of Mr. Joseph G. Blake...have [asked] me to recommend him for the appointment of Midshipsman in our Navy. I have but a slight acquaintance with this young gentleman but he has been mention[ed] to me in such terms of approbation...that I have no hesitation in making an application in his behalf & permit me to add that his success would be very gratifying to me. Mr. Blake is about 20 years of age, and has received a very good education. Altho not a graduate it [his education] was partially classical...Mr. Blake has resided three years in this state [Ohio] & Kentucky..."
