A newsy letter to his sister describing activities at Fort Myer and his passion for horseback riding. "[My wife] Beatrice went to Camp Humphries To day to see Mary Post...I stayed home and worked a map problem with infinite worry to my self. These D--- piece [sic] advocates require more Pomp of war than I had thought and we had three parades last week or perhaps it was four. We had a fancy dress hop last night...Beatrice wore her Alsatian costume. Mrs. Marshall went as a nigrow maid and so looked the part at to be almost put out. No one knew her. Allahmande [his horse] fell on me over a jump the other day but I did not get hurt...Tell mama to send me a cake for both Christmas and my birthday...I am gradually getting on to the new arrangement of this typewriter so I can write a little faster..."
