Lot Essay

This camera and sound recording equipment was operated (except when speaking to the camera) by the late James Cameron during the making of Report production No. 1. Western Eyewitness in the North of Vietnam by James Cameron and filmed by Malcolm Aird.
Cameron directed, narrated and appeared in the film. It sought to show the injustice of the American involvement in the Vietnam War to the ordinary people of Vietnam without making overtly political statements. The film was shown on BBC1 television.
James Cameron was one Britain's most distinguished and influential journalists and broadcasters. His work in Vietnam won universal acclaim and had a marked effect on British public opinion.
