COOLIDGE, CALVIN, President. Autograph letter signed ("Calvin Coolidge") to R.H. Waldo, Plymouth, [Vermont], 21 September 1931. 1 page, 4to, on Coolidge's personal stationery. Fine.
"WE ARE PAYING TOO MUCH ATTENTION TO EUROPE"
A rare autograph letter signed in which the former President (nicknamed 'Silent Cal') tersely expresses the non-interventionist inclinations of the Republican party: "It would not be worth your while to see me about a daily dispatch. If you want to submit a proposal you can write me here. Thank you for the information about England. We are paying too much attention to Europe..." During 1930 and 1931, Coolidge wrote a daily column for the McClure Newspaper Syndicate entitled Thinking Things Over With Calvin Coolidge. Waldo may have been soliciting Coolidge to write another column.
