Ellsworth, New York, 7 December 1895, 1 page, 4to, neatly inlaid, on Police Department stationery, with small portrait neatly pasted to top, right-hand corner, discussing an invitation list: "John R. Procter will be the best of all possible guests. Do tell him that he must come; if not Gov[ernor] Thompson would be admirable...I am really very touched at the dinner that is being given me...coming as it does at the very time when the Press of New York seems to be a unit upon only one point and that is my own very unpleasant character..."; ROOSEVELT.
