An early Victorian oak centre table in the manner of Richard Bridgens, the rectangular re-entrant top with egg-and-dart carved border above strapwork and flowerhead frieze with pendant embossed apron, on pierced strapwork and boss supports centred by a cross with lion, on flattened scroll feet -- 39in. (99cm.) wide, 20in. (61cm.) deep, 30½in. (88cm.) high.
Provenance: The Earl of Strathmore, Glamis Castle.
The table, with its scrolled strapwork trestle supports, relates to the early Victorian 'Elizabethan' style published in Henry Whitaker's Practical Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Treasury of Designs, 1847.
