THE MUMMY, 1932
The original life mask made by the legendary make-up artist Jack Pierce for the classic horror film. Constructed of a studio distressed plaster, the piece was created in order to allow Karloff's face to disintegrate after being struck by lightening by the Egyptian gods at the climax of the film. In the filming, multiple exposures were utilized, and a Karloff face that stayed absolutely motionless was required. The piece shows intentional signs of age with a porous complexion, similar to the final "Mummy" look in the film; together with a still of the film's poster-- 9 in.
