RICHARD BURTON
A 1978 diary belonging to the legendary actor. The extremely detailed notes begin on New Years Day and continue through October 18. Mr. Burton writes in detail of events in his personal life and career. On January 28, "...went last night to the B. Hilton Ballroom (?) where midst tremendous enthusiasm I made an appearance giving C.B. DeMille award to Red Skelton, and midst more ecstacy won the Award for Best Drama Actor my self." On April 3, "LA Oscars, lost again. On April 19 regarding his ex-wife Elizabeth Taylor and her new husband John Warner, "...Chris says E.T. being smeared by opposition in primaries. To be expected in politics, Hope E.T. not knuckling under." Extensive notes in August regarding the filming of Teil Steiner-Das Eiserne Kreuz II, in Berlin, "... worked in hellish place controlled be E. Germans, V. humid, sweated-all did-like a black bull. Hideous little German extras. Chris (Wilding) told me that they are all very rude, "get me some coffee". On September 1, "...must have picked up bug somewhere, felt v. sick, however kept on working always in danger of vomiting in the middle of a take which would have given the press a field day." On September 17 regarding his opinion of the film, The Greek Tycoon, "...What shall I do if Bisset is my leading lady in next film? I wish we could get somebody really fine like Jane Fonda. But Jane likes films with messages etc. Humorless girl."
