A George III baluster mug on a spreading foot, with a moulded rim and leaf-capped double scroll handle, engraved at a slightly later date with a charmingly naive vignette of two horses with riders up racing towards a finishing post with flag, the contest watched by spectators, engraved beneath the vignette; "Moulsey Hurst, Sepr. 1st. 1780" and with a monogram, engraved above the vignette; "Tatler", Charles Wright, London 1766 - 5in., 10oz.See Plate 2

The site of the Moulsey Hurst race course could be found on the south bank of the Thames in Surrey, lying between Sunbury and Hampton Court. The area is now know as East Molesley. We have been unable to trace the actual race depicted on the above piece.
