Provenance: William Allingham; Hugh Walpole, Brackenburn (bookplate); Simon Nowell Smith (presentation inscription: "John Sparrow from Simon Nowell Smith 1950"). William Allingham's pencilled inscription reads: "I bought this book off a bookstall, then dined at 'The Cock', & sketched its old chimney piece (see end of book) W.A." The pencil sketch, on the yellow pastedown at the end of the book, is illustrated here.
