Sold with this lot is a declaration to the effect that the parasol is said to have belonged to the Empress Eugenie of France. The quality of the workmanship would certainly suggest a royal commission

A fine parasol, the shade of lilac silk with gilt and blonde silk lace overlaid, the ivory handle carved with posies of roses, with gold fittings, including a vacant cartouche surmounted by a crown, the finial an orb, encircled with a belt enamelled with Greek key pattern, opening to reveal a chain rosary with six coral stations and a crucifix set with rubies, in fitted velvet case
