FLOWERCAGE VALENTINE CARD
An embossed and pierced paperlace valentine card with printed verse 'Lurking under fairy flowers/Gayly, love, shall pass the hours/On the land, or on the stream/Thou art still my own day dream/May the dearest gifts of life/Like the tendrils of the vine/Guard thee from the world's rude strife/Thou--my chosen Valentine', the hand-coloured lithographed flowercage centre surmounted by an elaborate butterfly, lifting to reveal a small cherub within a burning heart with the words 'My heart is thine own', 10 x 8in., c. 1850; with a contemporary embossed envelope, 12½ x 9¾in.
