An elaborate hand-coloured embossed, pierced paperlace valentine card bordered and edged in gilt, the centre with a gilt cameo embossed filigree envelope stamp marked Mansell, opening to reveal cameo embossed cherubs and Cupids bearing a chromolithographed medallion of a peacock in a garden applied to a satin background, 10 x 8in., c. 1840-60; with a contemporary cameo embossed envelope addressed to 'Miss E. M. Waddell, 26 Broadway', 10½ x 8½in.
