An elaborate embossed and pierced paperlace valentine card heightened in silver, attributed to Joseph Mansell, applied with four pierced paperlace windows painted in watercolour and silver, the gauze centres applied with hand-coloured details, lifting to reveal a satin centre applied with a poesie of hand-coloured flowers, with the words 'The Most Beautiful', 9¾ x 7¾in., c. 1840-60; with contemporary chromolithographed envelope addressed to 'Miss Ellenor Sulivan, Franklin Street, Opposit Shroder Street, Baltimore', 10 x 8½in.
