JOHN WINDSOR
An embossed and pierced paperlace valentine card, stamp marked Windsor, with chromolithographic details, the centre with a gilt cherub holding a cornucopia of flowers within a garland of chromolithographic flowers applied onto gauze, the card opens to reveal an embossed scene against a red background depicting an amorous couple; with two other pierced paperlace and cameo embossed cards stamp marked Windsor, with silvered details, one containing an envelope centre the verse above and below reads 'A Promissory Note./Ere I lie the Nuptial band/Sign this with your lovely hand', the text inside reads 'I promise to love/honour and obey....', signed in pencil by the recipient, 7 x 4½in., c. 1840-50.
