GERMAN MECHANICAL LITHOGRAPHED CARDS
A collection of 10 German valentine cards, eight moveable, one a wedding souvenir of Franz Josef I and Elisabeth, the majority hand-coloured lithographs, one depicting a wooden shuttered window surrounded by a garland of flowers, the words above read 'Mit des Tages erster Stunde/Rus' ich laut aus Herzensgrunde (With the day's first light/I shout from the bottom of my heart)', the pull tag mechanism causing the windows to open revealing a young man, the words read 'Himmel! lasse ferner so/Uns vereinet seyn und froh! (Heaven! Let us continue thus, United and happy)', 3¾ x 2¾in., c. 1820's; another card depicting a seated couple with a lady peeping around the door, the words read 'Komm ich nicht angelegen? (I hope I'm not disturbing?)', the pull-tag mechanism causes a cradled baby to appear with the words 'Ich wunsche Ihnen Gluck (I wish you happiness)', 3¼ x 2¼in., c. 1820's; and 6 German greeting cards, three mechanical or pop-up and 8 French and Spanish greeting cards, one a chromolithograhic flowercage valentine card.
