VICTORIAN VALENTINES
An embossed and pierced paperlace valentine card with hand-coloured floral details, the centre applied with a gilded pierced paperlace envelope, opening to reveal a printed verse on satin entitled 'Contentment'; a valentine card with a lithographed border, the centre applied with a printed verse, the manuscript verse inside reads 'February 12th Shippensburg. In bower, and garden rich and rare/There's many a cherished flower/Who's beauty fills, who's fragrance blooms/With every flitting hour/Be such and only such with me/Which time can only sever/And there's a heart reserved for thee/That shall desert thee never'; and another, L. 8 x 5½in., c. 1850-70.
