JOSEPH MANSELL
An oval pierced paperlace and cameo embossed valentine card stamp marked Mansell, heigtened with silver, the gauze centre applied with hand-coloured flowers and leaves with silvered and gilded details, opening to reveal a hand written poem, the opening verse reads 'Believe me or believe me not/At other shrine I ne'er could bow/The world itself might be forgot/But never thou, - Oh never thou!/When absent, I recall thy charms/And wish as lovers when they part/I'd like the vine, a thousand arms/To clasp thee, hold thee, to my heart!', 8 x 6½in., c.1860; and another pierced paperlace card applied with fabric flowers and leaves.
