An embossed paperlace valentine card, stamp marked Rock, the centre applied with hand-coloured paper leaves and flowers, with a blue medallion containing the words 'What you are/to me every/moment', lifting up to reveal the hand written word 'Dearer', the interior inscribed in pencil 'To my darling Mary/From her/Valentine', 7 x 4½in., c. 1840-60; contained in its original lithographed envelope addressed to 'Miss Mary Graves, Springfield, Mass', and post marked February 14.
