MOVEABLE & POP-UP VALENTINE CARDS
An embossed and pierced paperlace card with hand-coloured lithographed centre of a lady, with pull-tag mechanism, when operated the skirt lifts up to display the young ladies crinoline, the printed verse reads 'As Crenoline is all the rage/You girls must patronize/But such a large balloon as yours/I cannot recognise/You know my dear if wind is up/It will contrary be/And blow your flounces far too high/Then oh! what a sight to see', 7 x 4¾in., c. 1850-60; together with a chromolithographic pop-up card opening to reveal a three dimensional scene of a girl holding a vase with a flower in it and a young boy sitting on a bench with his dog; and a pop-up Christmas card.
