A fantasy, two-colour and diamond and mother-of-pearl necklace designed Erté, and manufactured by Circle Fine Art, modelled as a carved mother-of-pearl female head wearing elaborate headress the design being intergrated into the necklace the central panel construction affording the option of a brooch, in accompaning flock case signed Erté.
Erté first created "sophistication" as a costume design entitled "Arctic Sea" for a 1925 production of George White's Scandals, New York. In 1984 the artist again utilised the "Arctic Sea" theme as the central design image for this fine art piece of jewellery, entitled "Sophistication". No. 100 of a limited edition of 250.
