Reid and Auld are recorded as working at 66, Princes Street, Edinburgh 1806-1823. The pattern for the clock's ring handles features in a Birmingham metal worker's pattern book illustrated in N. Goodison The Victoria & Albert Museum's Collection of Metal Work Pattern Books, Furniture History Society, 1975, pl40, no.8290 and, the case is designed in the early 19th Century antique manner popularised by Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 and corresponds to a clock illustrated in R. Barder, The Georgian Bracket Clock, Woodbridge, 1993, p208, pl V1/52
