This serving-table with a Vitruvian fretted ribbon-wave frieze is inspired by the George II 'Palladian' or 'antique' style, while the serpentined legs are embellished with Roman acanthus foliage framing an embossed cartouche in the French 'picturesque' manner, and corresponds to a carver's pattern published in Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman's and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754, pl XI
