Details
A Victorian beaded flaring circular mustard pot with a blue glass liner, leaf-capped double scroll handle, and bright-cut domed, hinged cover inset with an 1873 shilling and with an openwork trefoil thumb-piece, the body bright-cut with floral and foliate swags and ivy leaf friezes, William Edwards or William Evans, London 1871, the cover apparently unmarked - 3¼in.
The small discrepancy between the dates of the pot and the coin would suggest that the latter is a later addition, probably let into the cover to replace a disc engraved with an unwanted monogram or initial. The removed piece of silver may well have been struck with the hallmarks, this accounting for their apparent absence.
