This pot was commissioned as part of the celebrations of the 50th. anniversary of The Mustard Club, a fictitious club created in 1926 as part of a highly successful advertising campaign. The strange and comical adventures of the six officers of the club, President The Baron de Beef, Secretary Miss Di Gester, Lord Bacon of Cookham, Lady Hearty, Signor Spaghetti and Master Mustard, were hugely popular throughout the late 1920s and early 1930s, the club password: "Pass the Mustard, Please" becoming a well-known catch phrase.
