A French mahogany tulipwood, marquetry and ormolu-mounted bureau plat, the serpentine top with inset glass and brass border above three frieze drawers and cabriole legs with foliate gilt clasps trailing to gilt sabots, stamped G. Durand - 44in. (112cm.) wide, 24in. (61cm.) deep, 30in. (76cm.) high.

The stamp probably refers to Prosper-Guillaume Durand of Paris, son of the important early 19th century cabinet-maker Louis Durand, recorded from the 1830's to circa.1860. Together they supplied pieces for Trianon, St. Cloud and other palaces. He was made Ebeniste Du Roi in 1839, see D.Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Francais Du XIXe Siecle, Les Edition de L'Amateur 1989 pp. 179-181.
