A pair of giltwood upright mirrors, in the manner of Thomas Johnson, the shaped plate surmounted by a courting couple within a fantasic pavillion, the sides with mirrored borders carved with ho-ho birds, and dogs amidst scrolling foliage, late 19th century - 75 x 40in. (180 x 102cm.)

This pair of mirrors appears to be closely based on a design by Thomas Johnson, plate 4 of Collection of Designs, which also has a pagoda cresting with rocaille enclosing a pastoral couple, flanked by HoHo birds, another bird in flight, and the dog perched on scrollwork on the right hand side.
