Lot Essay

Margaret Stirling (1765-1849) was the fourth daughter of Sir William Stirling of Ardoch (1729-1799) and younger sister of Christian. In October, 1790. she married Andrew Stuart of Torrance, author of a history of the Stuarts, by whom she had four children. She married again in 1804, to Sir William Johnstone Pulteney, Bt., and died without further issue in 1849.
