A covering letter from the original vendor explains that the cane was given to Robert Hodda (caretaker of the South Woodford Council offices before and during the war years) by Churchill who was then MP for South Woodford. Also included in the lot are photocopies of Robert Hodda as Mace Bearer dating from 1937, and pictured with Winston Churchill at the Victory Celebrations in June 1946 (supplied by Wanstead and Woodford Conservative Association).
