A 2pp. a.l.s. by Edith Sitwell, dated Renishaw Hall, Renishaw, Nr. Sheffield, 11th May 1943, to Mr. Peasall Smith, thanking him for: "the illuminating and happy present of the aphorisms. They are my constant companion, and a danger to my work, for I cannot put them down. It is like being invaded by a nation of giant fire flies, -- but all having a wise purpose, which fire flies have not ...;" A 4pp. a.l.s. by Osbert Sitwell, dated Renishaw, October 3rd 1944, to 'My dear Logan', discussing Cloudscapes: "this Summer I really let myself go about cloudscapes ... about the great golden torsos and shining and splendid shapes that I saw, and of cities that dissolved into iceburgs and mountains or the masks of furies, driven on an unbelievable force of wind," also discussing the beauty and purpose of butterflies: "They flit, sipping honey, from flower to flower, and spend, like the Chinese poets, a great deal of their time in a pleasant state of intoxication;" together with another a.l.s. by Osbert Sitwell and a visiting card initialled and inscribed by Joseph Conrad.
