A MID-VICTORIAN WALNUT DAVENPORT, by Asprey, London,
The stepped rectangular top with moulded edge above a pair of arched panelled cupboard doors mounted with a gilt-metal coronet above the entwined letters H&A, enclosing a fitted mirrored interior, with variously-sized pigeon holes and bearing an ivorine plaque inscribed Asprey, Maker, 166 Bond St., London, flanked by a further pair of panelled cupboard doors, one fitted with two short drawers, the hinged gilt-tooled leather writing surface enclosing a partially-fitted satin-birch interior, fitted with two short drawers, each side fitted with a leather-lined slide, one side fitted with four graduated drawers, the other with four false drawers, on acanthus-carved scrolled supports and in-curved platform base ending in bun feet, with recessed castors, the lockplates stamped Asprey, 166 Bond St.,,

Provenance
This Davenport was almost certainly presented as a wedding gift for the marriage of Charles 11th Marquis of Huntly to Amy Cunliffe-Brookes, elder daughter of Sir William Cunliffe-Brookes Bt., 14th July, 1869 and by family repute was purchsed by the vendor's mother at a sale of effects from Aboyne Castle, Aberdeenshire in the 1940's.
