A rare two-piece stage suit of gold satin, the collarless jacket and drainpipe trousers piped with gold braid, the jacket fastening with two imitation tortoiseshell buttons - accompanied by a photograph of James Brown wearing the suit at the Apollo Theatre, New York, 1964, (printed later). (2)

You didn't see too many groups like us, dancing all over the place, cutting flips, slinging sweat and singing real raw. We wore...bright suits...With the jacket cut open in front to show a lot of shirt....
