Lot Essay

Cupid drives the Sun deity's chariot, while a bas-relief with trophies of Love's weapons embellish the marble plinth, which is supported by bacchic lion monopodiae. Another clock of this model is illustrated in E. Neihuser, French Bronze Clocks, 1700-1830, Atglen, 1999, p. 240, no 910.
