Lot Essay

This richly decorated casket is clearly inspired by the Louis XIV coffres de toilette or coffres de mariage created by André-Charles Boulle. Celebrated Louis XIV examples include two in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles and two in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, Boughton House, Northamptonshire.
