A COPENHAGEN MYTHOLOGICAL TAPESTRY
Circa 1690s, attributed to Bernt van der Eichen
Woven in wools and silks, depicting Mercury freeing Io, from the series Jupiter and Io, showing Mercury with a drawn sword in on hand and a flute in the other hand standing above the sleeping Argus, an also sleeping dog lays in the middle while a white heifer escapes to the right, in a wooded landscape with a red-chested bird sitting in a tree, within a beige and black outerslip with fringe, with the mark 'K.H.', two transport labels to reverse 'G...SOPRON EBENFURT VASUT GYÖS SAPRO EBENFURTHER EISENBAHN GYORSÁRU - EILGUT' and '...GYÖR-SOPRON EBENFURTH VASUT HONNAN: ... Possibly before the second half 18th Century castle Willestrup, Jutland.
Possibly inherited by the Rosenkrantz family in the second half 18th Century and transferred to Rosenholm, Jutland where it remained certainly until 1875.
