Unsigned (Osaka or Kyoto), Edo Period (Mid/Late 18th Century)
Katabori, stained marine ivory; a model of an ashinaga carrying a tenaga on his shoulders, the tenaga reaching down to catch hold of an octopus which is starting to entwine itself around the ashinaga's legs, the figures' curly hair and other details incised and stained, the himotoshi formed by two equally sized holes in the lower part of the ashinaga's tunic
