Katabori, stained boxwood; a fine early figure of a reclining kirin, its head turned sharply upwards to the left, the whiskers and one of the horns carved in openwork, the distinctive markings well contrasted, the most prominent surfaces slightly worn from prolonged handling, the himotoshi formed by a larger and a smaller hole in the underside, signed with incised characters next to the smaller hole Tametaka
