A Japanese gold lacquer two-tier box and cover modelled as two addorsed rectangular boxes, decorated in hiramakie, takamakie, scattered nashiji and kirigane with groups of chrysanthemum issuing from behind cane fences and spruce and prunus from a mound below stylised clouds, the sides similarly decorated, each tier fitted to the interior with a tray, one with similar decoration to the cover, the other in nashiji, all on a mura-nashiji ground (cracks and chips) -- 11¼in.wide.
