Lot Essay

The crest engraved on this instrument is that of the Brigade of Guards, with the motto "Tri Juncta In Uno", indicating that this was made for a Guards Officers' Mess, for use by a gentleman who had lost his right arm during the Napoleonic Wars, where Guards Regiments were present at all the major engagements.
