This match, played at Villa Park, Birmingham, on 29 February 1908, before a crowd of 11,000 ended in a 2-0 win for the Football League.

James "Napoleon" McMenemy was, without doubt, one of the greatest-ever Scottish inside-forward's. He was born in Rutherglen, Glasgow on 23rd August 1880 and he joined Celtic F.C. in May 1902, where he picked-up a phenominal 11 League Championship medals; 6 Scottish Cup winner's and one runner's-up example. In June 1920 he joined Partick Thistle where at the age of 41 he won a further cup winner's medal when the Jags won the cup in 1921. He also played for Scotland at full International level on 12 occasions and made 14 appearance for the Scottish League
