In the 1928-29 Glasgow Charity Cup, Rangers defeated Celtic 4-2.

Tom Hamilton joined Rangers in 1923 and played a total of 399 games for the light blues until his departure for health reasons during the close season of 1934. During his stay at Ibrox he was part of the famous side which won the Championship five times in a row from 1927 to 1931. He also won 4 Scottish Cup winner's medals and will always be remembered as the goalkeeper in the famous Cup final of 1928 against Celtic when with the score still at 0-0 he made a vital save from the Celtic outside-left Adam McLean. Rangers, spurred on by his wonderful save went on to break their 25 year Cup hoodoo by defeating their old adversaries 4-0
