A rare late 19th Century lacquered brass transit theodolite indistinctly signed on the horizontal circle Brunner freres a Paris further engraved Depot del a guerre, the 8inch vertical circle with silvered scale, incorporating four verniers with reflector plates and twin magnifiers, the vertical circle split to incorporate a level with tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp, the axis supporting the cross bubble, the telescope with dust cap and rack-and-pinion fine adjustment, the horizontal limb with lead-filled compensating weight, raised on the tapering pillar support and plate over the horizontal silvered scale with four verniers and glass reflectors, twin magnifiers, tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp, supported on the flat tripod base with similar adjustment, the three adjustable feet supported on table pads (possibly of later manufacture) overall height 19¾in. (50.3cm.) contained in two walnut cases, the larger brass-bound, - 17.in (43.2cm.) high, with [?] manufacturer's labels and applied with brass plate inscribed Theodolite BRUNNER N°6. the paper label inscribed with inventory no 13:424, with iron carrying handles, hooks, and two fitted screwdrivers
