A very rare contemporary mid-18th Century partially planked brass pinned boxwood model of an Admiral's barge. --3¼ x 22¼in (9.5 x 56.5cm).
The hull. with exposed ribs and keel has thwarts, rowlocks and footrests for twelve oarsmen, stern thwarts and stern seating, finished in lacquer with venetian red bulwarks, carved decorated stern transom with gilded crown held aloft by male and female figures, the rudder head with carved crowned head and with blue and gilded gunwhale decoration. Additional details include twelve oars with curved blades and square looms each finished in red with gilded mthical fish decoration on both sides of the blades, carved oarsmen (two missing, two damaged), helmsman and passenger (later). Stand.
