Lot Essay

The fashion for such romantic Antiquarian furniture, constructed from richly carved woodwork. Panels became a speciality of the Wardour Street area of London in the early 19th century. However in 1842 the architect William Burn also recommended - For old oak carvings to go to Messrs Pratt, no.47 New Bond Street, Messrs Street & Son, Brewer Street, Golden Square and J. Nixon & Co., 123 Great Portland Street - and for the most splendid carvings of every description to W.G. Rogers, No.18 Church Street, Soho where you will be charmed.
