A clipped signature and inscription by Arthur Conan Doyle, dated March 15/21, laid down on card: "This village may be called the monument to the old British regular army which died in its tracks to save Ypres and to stop the first overwhelming rush of the German hordes"; together with 5 other clipped signatures, including Henry Wood, Joyce Grenfell, Harry Lauder and Rudyard Kipling and a signed postcard photograph of Dr. Hugo Eckener.
