Three notebooks containing approximately 400 leaves of text and ephemera for Smith's production Ascent of Mont Blanc between 1852 and 1854, bound in near uniform contemporary half leather, title and vignette pasted onto upper covers (rubbed). (3)

Smith was an author and playwright who came to fame with his entertainment piece entitled Mr. Albert Smith's Ascent of Mont Blanc. This show, first presented at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly on March 15th, 1852, described Smith's ascent of Mont Blanc on the 12th August 1851 and portrayed Anglo-continental life. It became the most popular exhibition of its kind ever know. On the 24th August 1854 a private performance was given before the Queen and Prince Consort at Osbourne House. These notebooks contain the text for the various performances and include programmes from the shows.
