This cockpen armchair with reed enriched and splayed legs corresponds to those of a 'Chinese Chair' of this period attributed to Messrs. Young, Hamilton and Trotter and is illustrated in F. Bamford, Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers, Edinburgh, 1983, pls. 25 and 26
