Born in Budapest, Csato initially studied at the Beaux-Arts in Vienna, followed by Berlin between 1930-34, under the direction of Archipenko, Feininger and Klee. He exhibited in Budapest 1946-47 before moving to Paris, where he showed at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in 1955 and Salon Comparaisons in 1957.
