Further details
The oval shape, treatment of timber and panelling of the frieze are very close to the signed table by James Newton (FL. 1773-1821) sold anonymously in these rooms, 8th July 1993, Lot 41. The X-framed support reflects the English passion for elegant French forms of the Empire period, particularly the work of Adam Weisweiler (see P. Lemonnier, Weisweiler, Powys, 1983, Page 88).
